I’ve found Word Dash: Phase 1 really useful for my lower reading and writing groups. It is simple, engaging and easy for my students to use, and it gives them valuable opportunities to practise their word reading and build confidence.

I especially like how it keeps the students motivated while reinforcing their phonics and word recognition skills. It has been a great resource to support my learners who need extra practice.

My Year 7&8 class have really enjoyed the first two Phase 3 Word Dash sessions. It is a great, snappy way to go over the spelling patterns in a range of ways, as well as understanding what the words mean with the definition dash as well. I can see this working really well when combining with the Cursive Year 7&8 spelling lessons. A fantastic resource!

I have really enjoyed seeing the positive impact of the Word Dash programme. The positive reinforcement of spelling rules is particularly effective, as it helps children recognise and apply the patterns they are learning in a meaningful way.  The repeated practice is another real strength of the programme. Revisiting spelling patterns regularly helps to consolidate and embed children’s knowledge, making it more likely that they will retain and transfer these skills into their everyday writing.  The pace of the videos is also well judged. They keep children engaged while allowing them to work methodically through each activity at a good pace.

Thank you for this great resource, Word Dash. I have used it with my Year 7/8 class each day as a review of the spelling pattern taught previously. It is so easy I just put it on my screen and hit play and off we go. The activities are different each day with and they are so engaging for the class. I know this is going to help the retention of these tricky Phase 3 spelling patterns. 

We use Word Dash in a mixed year 7&8 class, where there is a wide range of individual abilities to work with. The quick format lowers the pressure around word-building, giving everyone—especially reluctant or struggling spellers—the confidence to dive in. It is a simple, effective way to build literacy skills while keeping students positive and involved.
